Archmage class guide (Human) — strengths, skills and step-by-step

The Archmage is the ultimate human mage: a tower of mana that pours devastating elemental magic from afar. Perfect for players who love explosive damage without getting close to the enemy.

by admin 7 min read

In short: The Archmage is the human attack mage at the peak of its evolution, a specialist in long-range elemental magic. Its role is to be the group's cannon: heavy magic damage, huge mana and zero desire to stand on the front line.

Picture standing at a safe distance and, with a single gesture, sending a fireball across the battlefield. That's exactly what it feels like to play an Archmage. You're the kind of character who decides the fight from afar, turning mana into bursts of damage.

It's a class that rewards players who enjoy positioning and "reading" combat. You don't have much health, but if you keep your distance and manage your spells well, you become the most dangerous piece in the group.

The Archmage is the endpoint of the human attack-mage line. The journey is: Human Mystic (Starter) → Human Wizard (1st Class) → Sorcerer (2nd Class) → Archmage (3rd Class). Each step on that ladder makes your spells stronger and opens up new tools.

Strengths

  • Practically infinite mana — With around 1847 mana at level 85, you're at the absolute top among all classes in this area. In practice this means you can cast spell after spell without running dry, which is essential for a mage built around continuous damage.
  • Sky-high magic power — Your INT of 41 is among the best on the server. INT is the attribute that boosts your spell damage, so every Fireball or Wind Strike of yours hits much harder than other classes'.
  • Safe ranged damage — You attack from afar, so you can deal damage while staying out of reach of most melee enemies. This gives you time to react and reposition before you take any hits.
  • Elemental versatility — You have fire, wind and ice spells. That makes you adaptable: you can pick the right spell for each situation and even slow the enemy down with ice.
  • Magical self-sufficiency — You have your own heal and casting-speed buffs. This helps you survive and farm solo without depending 100% on other players.

Weaknesses

  • Low health — With around 3416 HP at level 85, you're fragile (among the lowest on the server). Tip: always keep your distance and use your healing spells before your health gets critical.
  • Slow on foot — Your run speed (124) is low. Tip: use the Wind Walk buff to compensate and flee or reposition faster when needed.
  • Vulnerable in melee — If an enemy gets close to you, you suffer. Tip: use Ice Bolt to slow whoever approaches and buy space to back off.
  • Low dexterity — Your DEX (21) is modest, which slightly lowers accuracy and critical hit chance. Tip: don't rely on physical crits; focus on maximizing magic damage, which is your strong suit.

Class-defining skills

  • Fireball — Your basic fire damage spell. It's your main "shot" early on: cast from afar and tear a good chunk off the target's health.
  • Wind Strike — Another direct damage spell, this one wind-based. Good for alternating with Fireball to keep constant pressure on the enemy.
  • Ice Bolt — An ice damage spell that also slows the target. Use it when something is running at you: you deal damage and brake the enemy at the same time.
  • Blaze — A stronger fire spell, learned at level 20. It's a leap in fire power: it becomes your new heavy ranged damage option.
  • Battle Heal — A quick heal to use in the middle of a fight. It can save your skin when your health starts dropping, since you're fragile.
  • Acumen — A buff that reduces casting time, meaning your spells come out faster. More spells per second means more total damage — keep it always on.
  • Wind Walk — A buff that increases movement speed. Essential to make up for your natural slowness and position yourself better.
  • Weakness — A debuff that lowers the enemy's physical attack. Great against bosses and monsters that hit hard in melee, keeping the group safer.
  • Arcane Shield — A mana shield buff (learned at level 80): part of the damage you would take is absorbed by your mana. Since you have so much mana, it becomes a very valuable extra layer of defense.

Attributes: what to prioritize

The Archmage is built entirely around magic. Your job is to maximize magic damage and make sure you can cast nonstop. Defense comes from keeping distance, not from facing the enemy.

  • INT (magic power) — It's attribute number one. The more INT, the harder each spell hits. It's the foundation of your damage.
  • MEN (mana) — Secures your mana pool, which is already your biggest asset. Keeps you casting for much longer.
  • WIT (casting speed) — Makes your spells come out faster, increasing your damage per second in practice.
  • CON (health) — A little CON helps you endure more, since you're naturally fragile.

As a mage, your weapon is the magic-focus (caster) type, made to boost spell power and speed — never a melee weapon. Your armor is the robe, which is light and gives the best magic bonuses.

Prioritize upgrading the weapon first: it's what raises your spell damage the most. Then focus on the robe to gain more mana and magic defense. Keep everything updated as you level up.

Step-by-step for beginners

  1. Create the character — Choose the Human race and follow the mage path (Human Mystic). That's the starting point of the line that ends in the Archmage.
  2. Do the first quests of the starting area — The opening missions give you XP, basic gear and teach the game's basics. Don't skip this phase.
  3. Turn on auto-hunt — Auto-hunt makes your character farm by itself on monsters of your level, attacking and casting spells automatically. It's the most practical way to level up in Essence.
  4. Follow the professions in order — Advance through base → 1st → 2nd → 3rd class as you reach the required levels. Each change gives you stronger spells and makes you visibly more powerful.
  5. Prioritize the right spells — Always keep your damage spells (Fireball, Wind Strike, then Blaze) on your bar and activate buffs like Acumen and Wind Walk. They make you cast faster and move better.
  6. Get Adena and L-Coin — Adena comes naturally from farming; L-Coin is earned in missions, the Season Pass and events. Use these resources to buy upgrades and consumables.
  7. Keep weapon and armor updated — Whenever your damage starts dropping against stronger monsters, it's a sign you need to upgrade the mage weapon and the robe. Old gear stalls your progress.
  8. Learn to reposition — Build the habit of keeping distance and stepping back when enemies approach. Surviving is half the job of a fragile mage.

Where to farm

  • Auto-hunt on monsters of your level — Leave the character farming in zones that match your level. It's the foundation of growth and yields steady XP and Adena.
  • Move up to harder zones as you evolve — As you grow stronger, switch to areas with higher monsters. They give more experience and better rewards.
  • Join a party for raids and bosses — In a group, you're the ranged damage cannon. Raids and bosses give rewards you can't get alone.
  • Use the Season Pass and daily missions — They're steady sources of XP, Adena and L-Coin with little effort. Do them whenever you can.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Standing too close to enemies — As a fragile mage, facing melee is a recipe for dying. Always attack from as far as possible.
  • Ignoring buffs — Forgetting to activate Acumen and Wind Walk wastes a good chunk of your potential. Always buff before farming.
  • Letting the weapon fall behind — A mage lives off magic damage, and the weapon is its biggest source. An old weapon means weak damage and slow farming.
  • Not healing in time — Waiting for your health to get critical is far too risky with so little HP. Use Battle Heal early, no skimping.

This class is for you if…

  • You like dealing explosive damage from afar without having to enter melee combat.
  • You enjoy managing resources like mana and cooldowns, and love the classic elemental mage fantasy.
  • You prefer to be the group's biggest threat, even if that means being fragile and requiring good positioning.
