Cardinal class guide (Human) — strengths, skills and step-by-step

The Cardinal is the supreme healer of Lineage II Essence: the class that keeps the group alive through the toughest battles. See if this support role fits you.

by admin 7 min read

In short: The Cardinal is the most complete healer on the server, able to keep an entire group standing even in chaos. It is the ideal class for those who like being the indispensable person in the party, rather than the hero who lands the final blow.

Imagine being the person who decides who lives and who falls in a battle. The Cardinal is not the one who hits hardest, but the one who holds everything together: every heal you cast is the difference between victory and disaster.

Playing a Cardinal is an experience of attention and reading the fight. You watch your allies' health bars, anticipate danger before it arrives and react at the right moment. When you do it well, you become the soul of the group — everyone wants you nearby.

The Cardinal is the final step of the human holy line: Human Mystic (Starter) → Cleric (1st Class) → Bishop (2nd Class) → Cardinal (3rd Class). Each step increases the power of your heals and adds new tools to protect the group.

Strengths

  • Massive mana (the best on the server) — with about 1847 MP at level 85, the Cardinal has the largest mana pool among the classes. That means you can heal nonstop in long fights, when other classes have already run dry.
  • Very high magic power (INT 41) — the intelligence stat is among the highest in the game. The higher the INT, the stronger each heal and spell, so your heals restore a lot of health at once.
  • Heals for every situation — you have a single-target heal, a fast combat heal and a group heal. You can pick the right tool for each moment, from light damage to total disaster.
  • Resurrects fallen allies — very few classes can bring companions back. In a raid, this stops the group from wasting time returning from the village and saves the whole fight.
  • Enemy control with Sleep — beyond healing, you can put a dangerous monster to sleep, taking it out of the fight for a few seconds. It is a lifesaving tool when something goes wrong.
  • Solid mage defenses — magic defense is good, so you hold up well against enemy spells while keeping the group alive.

Weaknesses

  • Slowness (low speed) — with a run speed of 124, the Cardinal is one of the slowest characters. Tip: always play close to the group and use a mount when possible so you don't fall behind.
  • Almost no physical damage (low STR) — on your own, you take forever to kill anything in melee. Tip: rely on your attack spells to farm and leave the heavy lifting to your allies.
  • Fragile without protection (low DEX) — you miss more hits and dodge little, so you are vulnerable if an enemy reaches you. Tip: keep your distance and position behind the characters who hold the front line.
  • Depends on the group to shine — alone, the Cardinal is only decent; its true power appears in a party. Tip: join groups and clans early to make the most of the class.

Class-defining skills

  • Self Heal — heals yourself. The first survival tool: use it whenever your health drops while farming alone.
  • Battle Heal — a fast, direct heal. This is your everyday combat heal: it casts quickly and restores plenty of health to an ally in trouble.
  • Heal — a stronger, more efficient heal for controlled situations. Use it when there is time for a longer cast and the target needs a lot of health.
  • Group Heal — heals the whole group at once. Essential in raids and during area damage, when several allies are hurt at the same time.
  • Resurrection — revives a fallen ally, giving back part of the lost experience. This is the skill that saves raids: never leave a companion waiting.
  • Sleep — puts an enemy to sleep, neutralizing it for a while. Use it to remove a dangerous monster from the fight while the group focuses on another target.
  • Weakness — weakens the enemy's physical attack. Applying it to a boss makes the whole group take less damage.
  • Wind Strike / Fireball — damage spells (magic damage) for when you need to farm alone. They aren't strong, but they get the job done when there is no group around.
  • Resurrection and combined heals — the full kit of healing plus resurrection is what makes the Cardinal irreplaceable in any group content.

Attributes: what to prioritize

The Cardinal is a support mage class, so everything revolves around magic and mana. You want each heal to be strong and to never run out of MP in the middle of a long fight.

  • INT (magic power) — the most important stat: it increases the strength of your heals and spells. Always prioritize it.
  • MEN (mana) — gives you more MP and resistance to magic. It keeps you healing for longer.
  • WIT (cast speed) — helps you heal faster, which can save an ally by a fraction of a second.
  • CON (health) — a bit of extra health helps you survive if an enemy reaches you.

As a magic class, the Cardinal uses a mace or staff to boost healing power and mana. The ideal armor is the robe (magic vestments), which gives the best mana and magic-defense bonuses.

Early on, prioritize upgrading the weapon for stronger heals, then the robe for more mana and magic defense. Jewels and accessories that increase INT or MEN are the next targets. Don't spend resources on physical-damage items — they don't suit the class.

Beginner step-by-step

  1. Create the character — choose the Human race and follow the mage path (Human Mystic). This is where the future Cardinal is born.
  2. Do the first quests of the starting area — they give experience, basic equipment and teach the basics of the game. Don't skip this step.
  3. Turn on auto-hunt — this feature makes your character farm on its own against monsters of your level. Since the Cardinal is fragile, let auto-hunt work in safe zones while you keep an eye on it.
  4. Follow the professions base → 1st → 2nd → 3rd — you go from Human Mystic to Cleric, then Bishop and finally Cardinal. Each change unlocks stronger heals and spells; make the transition as soon as it opens up.
  5. Prioritize healing skills and Sleep — put Battle Heal, Group Heal and Resurrection on your shortcuts. These are the abilities that define your role.
  6. Gather Adena and L-Coin — sell dropped items and complete missions to stack up currency. Use it to buy and upgrade your weapon and robe.
  7. Keep weapon and armor updated — old gear leaves your heals weak. Whenever possible, raise the tier of your weapon and robe.
  8. Join a party or clan — the Cardinal thrives in a group. The sooner you heal for others, the sooner you enjoy the best of the class.

Where to farm

  • Auto-hunt on monsters of your level — let the character farm on its own in safe zones suited to your current level.
  • Move to harder zones as you grow — as you gain levels and gear, move to stronger areas for more experience and drops.
  • Party for raids and bosses — this is where the Cardinal shines: your heals and resurrections make you essential in boss fights.
  • Use the Season Pass and daily missions — they give experience, currency and items steadily; complete them every day.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Trying to farm alone like a damage mage — the Cardinal kills slowly; play as support and look for a group as soon as possible.
  • Ignoring mana — forgetting to upgrade MEN and the robe leaves you out of MP in long fights, exactly when you need to heal most.
  • Forgetting Resurrection — leaving a dead ally waiting can cost the entire raid; always keep resurrection ready.
  • Wandering far from the group — being slow and fragile, falling behind leaves you exposed and far from the people you need to heal.

This is for you if…

  • You like being the indispensable piece of the group, even without showing up on the damage rankings.
  • You enjoy paying attention, anticipating danger and reacting at the right moment.
  • You prefer playing in a party and building a reputation as the server's reliable healer.
