Death Messenger (DE) Class Guide (Death Knight) — strengths, skills and step by step
The Death Messenger is an undead warrior who crushes enemies up close with raw strength and plenty of stamina. Perfect for anyone who wants to jump into the fight and walk away alive.
In short: The Death Messenger is a melee fighter of the Death Knight race, built to face the enemy head-on, hit hard and soak up damage. It is the ideal choice for beginners who like direct action and don't want to keep running from monsters.
Picture a knight who came back from death just to keep fighting. The Death Messenger is exactly that: an undead in heavy armor who charges in fearlessly, punches and slashes with blades strapped to his fists, and simply doesn't go down easily.
Playing as him is an "in your face" experience. You don't calculate distance or aim from afar — you stick to the enemy, activate your buffs and keep up the pressure. It's a class that rewards courage and gives a very satisfying sense of brute power.

The Death Messenger is the second stage of the dark-elf Death Knight line. The progression goes like this: Death Pilgrim (DE) (Starter) → Death Blade (DE) (1st Class) → Death Messenger (DE) (2nd Class). In other words, you'll still grow further — this is the stage where the character truly gains body and identity.
Strengths
- Sky-high physical strength — With STR at the very top (among the highest on the server), every hit truly hurts. In practice, you drop monsters fast and farm efficiently, which is gold for leveling up.
- Lots of health — Its HP sits among the highest in the game. That means you can make more mistakes and lose less — you can take damage while you hit, without dying at the first slip. Great for beginners who are still learning.
- Good movement speed — It moves faster than average, so it catches fleeing enemies, switches targets quickly and wastes less time moving between groups of monsters.
- Self-sustain — It has skills that recover health and mana little by little on their own. You depend less on potions and can farm longer without stopping.
- Complete buff kit — It carries its own attack, speed and defense boosts. This makes the character self-sufficient, with no need to beg other players for buffs early on.
Weaknesses
- Weak magic power — INT is low, so damage spells are not its strong suit. Tip: don't even try to play as a mage; focus on physical attack and use spells only as buffs and utilities.
- Short range — Since it fights glued to the enemy, it takes damage from everything nearby. Tip: use your control skills (fear and cage) to stop dangerous enemies before they surround you.
- Depends on closing in — Flying enemies, very fast runners or ranged attackers can be annoying. Tip: use the good speed and movement buffs to close the gap quickly.
- Low starting mana — The MP pool isn't huge, so spamming skills drains the bar. Tip: keep the mana auto-recovery on and don't waste skills on weak monsters.
Class-defining skills
- Punishment — A strong physical strike with direct damage. It's your skill to "open the fight" or finish a target that's almost dead.
- Haste — A buff that speeds up your attacks. Keep it always on: more attacks per second means more damage and faster farming.
- Wind Walk — A movement speed buff. Great for reaching enemies, traveling across the map and escaping tight spots.
- Berserker Spirit — A rage mode that increases your offensive power in exchange for a bit of defense. Use it when you want to drop something fast.
- Recover HP — A heal over time (health that comes back little by little). Turn it on before or during a fight to stay standing without spending potions.
- Recover MP — Recharges mana little by little. Keeps you with stamina to keep using skills while farming.
- Confusion — Causes fear in the enemy, making it flee. Useful to control a dangerous monster or buy time when too many enemies show up.
- Bone Cage — Traps the target in a cage of bones, holding it in place. Perfect to stop an enemy from running or to lock a target while you hit it.
- Magic Barrier — A buff that increases magic defense. Turn it on before facing enemies that cast spells to take less damage.
Attributes: what to prioritize
The Death Messenger is pure muscle: it lives on strength and resilience, not magic. That's why the focus is everything that boosts your physical damage and your survival.
- STR (Strength) — Your number one priority. It raises physical damage, which is the foundation of everything in this class.
- CON (Constitution) — Second priority. It gives more health and resistance, making you even harder to kill.
- DEX (Dexterity) — Useful in third place: it improves critical and hit chance, making your blows land more often.
- INT/WIT/MEN — You can almost completely ignore them; magic is not this class's path.
Recommended gear
Go for heavy armor — it matches the "tank that hits" style and takes advantage of your high health. For the weapon, use the fist/blade combat type, which is the class's specialty.
What to upgrade first: the weapon always comes first. A weapon upgrade raises your damage and speeds up farming immediately. Then invest in armor to endure more, and finally in jewels and attribute improvements.
Beginner step by step
- Create the character — Choose the Death Knight race and the Death Messenger line. At creation you already step right into the undead warrior mood.
- Do the first quests of the starting area — They give you basic gear, a bit of Adena and teach the basics of the game. Don't skip them: it's easy money and XP.
- Turn on auto-hunt — This feature makes the character farm by itself in zones of your level, hitting monsters automatically. It's the main way to level up in Essence — turn it on and let it run.
- Follow the professions in order — You start as Starter (Death Pilgrim), evolve to 1st Class (Death Blade), then 2nd Class (Death Messenger) and later the 3rd. Each change unlocks new skills and makes you much stronger.
- Prioritize the right skills and stances — Keep Haste, Wind Walk and the HP/MP recovery always on. Save Berserker Spirit and the controls (Confusion, Bone Cage) for the tough moments.
- Gather Adena and L-Coin — Adena comes from farming and selling drops; L-Coin is the server's special currency. Use both to buy upgrades and consumables.
- Keep weapon and armor updated — Whenever you can, swap for better gear of your level. Old gear stalls your progress and slows down farming.
Where to farm
- Auto-hunt on monsters of your level — Always stay in zones suited to your level; monsters that are too weak give little XP and too-strong ones kill you.
- Move to harder zones as you evolve — As you gain levels and gear, migrate to areas that give more reward.
- Form a party for raids and bosses — In a group you drop big targets that would be impossible alone, and you also split valuable drops.
- Use the Season Pass and daily missions — They are extra, constant sources of XP, Adena and items. Always do them.
Common beginner mistakes
- Trying to play as a mage — It doesn't work; INT is low. Always bet on physical attack.
- Leaving the weapon outdated — It's the mistake that slows farming the most. Always prioritize the weapon upgrade.
- Wasting skills — Using expensive skills on weak monsters drains your mana and leaves you standing around waiting for recharge.
- Forgetting to turn on the buffs — Without Haste and Wind Walk you hit and move much slower than you could.
This class is for you if…
- You like to jump into the fight head-on and hit up close, without aiming from afar.
- You prefer an easy and forgiving class that tolerates mistakes while you learn.
- You enjoy the fantasy of a powerful, tough undead warrior.
