Overlord class guide (Orc) — strengths, skills and step by step
The Overlord is the Orc spiritual leader: it heals, commands and empowers the group with war cries and magic. Perfect for players who love keeping the team alive.
In short: The Overlord is the Orc race's support/healer — a mix of shaman and warchief that heals allies, hands out buffs, and even has enemy-control tricks. It's the ideal class for anyone who enjoys group play and keeping everyone standing.
Picture a huge orc, covered in totems and war paint, who fights not with muscle on the front line — but with his voice and the spirits. The Overlord lifts the group's morale with war cries, seals wounds with magic, and throws fear and confusion at enemies.
In practice, playing an Overlord means caring for your allies like a shepherd watches over the flock. You won't drop a boss alone with a punch, but without you the group falls a lot faster. It's a class of patience, attention and timing.

The Overlord is part of the orc mystic line. The progression is Orc Mystic (Starter) → Orc Shaman (1st Class) → Overlord (2nd Class). In other words, you start as a shaman apprentice and grow into the tribe's spiritual leader.
Strengths
- Gigantic mana (top of the list) — with 1847 MP at level 85, the Overlord almost never runs dry. That means you can heal, buff and cast spells back to back without stopping to recover mana all the time.
- Good HP for a support (above average) — with around 3987 HP at level 85, it can take more hits than most mages. In practice, you survive a surprise attack or an enemy that slipped past the tank.
- Complete healing and support — you have direct heals, heal-over-time, and even CP recovery. This keeps the whole group standing in long fights, which is exactly where other supports shine less.
- Group buffs that change the pace — chants that raise attack speed, movement speed, and lower the casting time of mages. A well-buffed team kills faster and escapes danger better.
- Enemy control (crowd control) — sleep, fear and confusion let you lock down dangerous monsters for a few seconds. It's an ace up your sleeve that saves the group when too much comes at once.
- Decent magic power (high INT) — with INT 31 your spells and heals hit firmly, so you're not just a buff dummy: you also help with damage when needed.
Weaknesses
- Slow on foot (among the slowest) — running speed is low, so you take a while to reposition. Tip: use your own movement-speed buff and always stay near the group, never isolated.
- Weak physical strength (STR 27) — punching does almost nothing, so don't count on melee damage. Tip: leave the grunt work to your allies and focus on what you do best (healing and buffing).
- Low dexterity (DEX 24) — few critical hits and less accuracy on physical strikes. Tip: ignore physical combat and invest all your time in magic and support.
- Fragile when alone — without a group to protect, you become an easy target in tough zones. Tip: the Overlord shines in party; play accompanied whenever you can.
Skills that define the class
- Battle Cry — a war cry that strengthens the group. Use it at the start of fights to give the team a boost of morale and combat power.
- Life Rescue — your direct heal, restoring life instantly. It's your emergency skill: cast it when an ally takes a heavy hit.
- Recover HP — heal-over-time (it restores life little by little over a few seconds). Great for long fights, since it saves mana and keeps the group stable.
- Pa'agrio's Honor — recovers CP (the blue "shield" bar in front of HP). Perfect for getting allies ready for the next fight without spending HP.
- Chant of Haste — a buff that raises the group's attack speed. More strikes per second means monsters drop faster.
- Chant of Wind Walk — a buff that increases movement speed. It partly solves your slowness and helps the whole team get around.
- Chant of Acumen — a buff that reduces casting time. It makes your mages cast spells faster — great in a group with casters.
- Fear — strikes fear into the enemy and makes it flee. Use it to get a dangerous monster off you and buy time.
- Dreaming Spirit — puts the target to sleep, locking it for a few seconds. Great for neutralizing one enemy while the group focuses another.
Attributes: what to prioritize
The Overlord is a support caster, so the rule is simple: focus on what feeds your magic and survival, and forget physical combat. Luckily, the class already comes with the right attributes from birth.
- MEN (mana) — your king attribute. Keeps the mana tank full so you can heal and buff nonstop.
- INT (magic power) — increases the strength of your spells and heals. The higher it is, the more useful you are.
- CON (health/resistance) — keeps you standing when an enemy slips through to you.
- WIT (casting speed) — useful in the background, to cast heals and buffs a little faster.
Recommended equipment
The Overlord doesn't use a heavy physical weapon — its attack type is fists/blades, but that's a detail: your power is in magic. Wear robe armor (cloth), which is the mage's light type and gives more magic bonus and mana regeneration.
Always prioritize what increases MP, mana regeneration and magic power. Upgrade armor first (to survive), then invest in items that reinforce your heals and buffs. Don't waste resources trying to become a physical fighter — that's not your path.
Step by step for beginners
- Create the character — choose the Orc race and follow the mystic line. You'll start as an Orc Mystic, the shaman apprentice.
- Do the first quests of the starting area — they teach the basics, give your first weapons, armor and some starting money. Don't skip this part.
- Turn on auto-hunt — auto-hunt makes your character farm on its own against monsters of your level, gaining XP and items while you watch over it. It's the backbone of leveling in Essence.
- Follow the professions in order — from Starter to 1st, 2nd and 3rd class. Each change unlocks stronger skills; as an Overlord (2nd class) you get your main heals and buffs.
- Prioritize your support skills — learn and always keep ready the heals (Life Rescue, Recover HP) and group buffs (Chant of Haste, Wind Walk, Acumen). This is what defines the class.
- Use enemy control wisely — save Fear and Dreaming Spirit for emergencies, when a dangerous monster gets to the group.
- Get Adena and L-Coin — sell what drops, do daily missions, and use Adena for gear and L-Coin for shop items. Don't hoard junk in your inventory.
- Keep weapon and armor updated — as you level up, swap for gear of your tier. A support with old armor dies easily and drags the group down.
Where to farm
- Auto-hunt on monsters of your level — always start with enemies matching your level, where XP pays well and you don't die for nothing.
- Move to harder zones as you grow — when you get too strong for the current area, migrate to more dangerous regions, which give more XP and better drops.
- Party up for raids and bosses — this is where the Overlord truly shines. Your heals and buffs sustain the group in fights worth great rewards.
- Use the Season Pass and daily missions — they're guaranteed sources of XP, Adena and items. Completing these tasks speeds up your progress a lot.
Common beginner mistakes
- Trying to fight with fists — with low STR and DEX, your physical damage is almost nothing. Whoever insists on this just wastes time and dies more.
- Walking alone — the Overlord depends on the group. Without allies to protect, you end up slow, exposed and unable to do what you do best.
- Forgetting to refresh buffs — buffs have a duration. If you don't keep them active, the group loses strength without even noticing why.
- Letting mana drain for nothing — even with huge MP, spending magic needlessly can leave you without a heal at the critical moment. Use it wisely.
This is for you if…
- You enjoy group play and take pleasure in keeping everyone alive and strong.
- You prefer to think and react (heal at the right moment, lock an enemy) instead of just spamming attack.
- You love the fantasy of being the spiritual leader of an orc tribe, commanding through support rather than brute force.
