Shillien Templar class guide (Dark Elf) — strengths, skills and step-by-step

The Shillien Templar is the Dark Elves' warrior tank: huge health, shield in hand and raw strength to hold the enemy while the party attacks in safety.

by admin 7 min read

In short: The Shillien Templar is a Dark Elf melee tank, built to soak up punishment and protect its allies. It's perfect for players who love standing in the middle of the fight, holding the monsters and never going down.

Picture a dark-skinned warrior in heavy armor who charges ahead of everyone, takes the blows that would hit their companions and still hits back hard. That's what playing a Shillien Templar feels like: you are the living wall of the group.

It's not the class that puts the biggest damage numbers on screen, but it's the one that keeps everyone alive. Once you learn to position your character and use your buffs at the right moment, holding a horde of monsters (or a whole boss) becomes a deeply satisfying feeling.

Overview

Profile
Race Dark Elf
Archetype Melee combat
Playstyle Sturdy tank
Difficulty Medium
Main weapon Fists / blades (FIST)
Position in the line 3rd Class

The Shillien Templar is the endpoint of the Dark Elves' dark knight line. The full path is: Dark Fighter (Starter) → Palus Knight (1st Class) → Shillien Knight (2nd Class) → Shillien Templar (3rd Class). With each profession you gain more health, more defense and new protective abilities.

Strengths

  • Sky-high Strength (STR) — with STR 41 (among the highest on the server), your blows truly land hard. A tank that also hurts holds the monsters' attention with ease.
  • Massive health — it reaches around 4,017 HP at level 85, near the very top among classes. That means you die very little and can take on large groups of enemies without fear.
  • Good run speed — at 139 speed, you catch monsters that flee and reposition quickly in battle, something rare for such a sturdy character.
  • Very high physical defense — base physical defense is extremely high and, with a shield equipped, you block many blows. It's the class that best absorbs physical damage in the game.
  • Its own survival buffs — you don't fully depend on other players: you have skills to reduce incoming damage, recover health and hold enemy aggro (their attention) on your own.

Weaknesses

  • Weak magic damage — your base magic attack is low, so don't count on spells to clear groups. Tip: focus on physical attacks and leave magic to the mage classes.
  • Not the biggest damage on screen — you protect better than you destroy. Tip: in a group, let the attackers shine and do your job of holding the enemies in place.
  • Low INT and WIT — with low intelligence and casting speed, your few spells come out slowly. Tip: don't invest in that path; treat your skills as support, not as a damage source.
  • Depends on shield and positioning — getting the most out of the class requires equipping a shield and staying on the front line. Tip: never fight without a shield and always stand between the monsters and your allies.

Class-defining skills

  • Power Strike — a strong physical melee blow. It's your basic attack for dealing damage and drawing a monster's attention.
  • Mortal Blow — a critical physical strike (a "blow" type) that delivers a spike of damage. Use it to finish off enemies or open the fight hard.
  • Power Shot — a short-range physical attack, useful for pulling a monster and starting combat.
  • Majesty — a buff that increases your presence and helps keep enemies focused on you. Turn it on before diving into the middle of the group.
  • Ultimate Defense — a special buff that greatly increases your defense for a while. Save it for critical moments, when you take a lot of damage at once.
  • Shield Mastery — a skill that improves your shield use, increasing your chance to block blows. It's one of the pillars of a tank's survival.
  • Recover HP — health recovery over time (a gradual heal). Activate it during the fight so you don't rely solely on the healer.
  • Recover MP — mana recovery over time. Keeps you with enough mana to use your abilities non-stop.
  • Vengeance — a skill that forces enemies to attack you (increases aggro) and reinforces your defense. It's the main tool for protecting the group: pull the danger onto yourself.

Attributes: what to prioritize

The Shillien Templar wants to be strong and sturdy at the same time. The combination of Strength (STR) for physical damage and Constitution (CON) for health is the heart of the class, always backed by the shield's defense.

  • STR (Strength) — increases the physical damage of your blows; it's what lets you hold the monsters' attention.
  • CON (Constitution) — increases health and resistance; it's what makes you hard to bring down.
  • DEX (Dexterity) — helps with critical hits and accuracy, making your blows more reliable.
  • INT/WIT (Intelligence/Wit) — barely useful here; ignore that path, since your spells are only support.

Use melee weapons of the fist/blade type (FIST) and, above all, always equip a shield — it's what unlocks the class's full defensive potential. For armor, prefer heavy armor, which gives the highest physical defense and matches the tank role.

When upgrading, improve your armor and shield first, because surviving is your priority. Then invest in the weapon to increase damage and better hold the enemies' attention.

Beginner step-by-step

  1. Create the character — choose the Dark Elf race and start as a Dark Fighter, the starter class that leads to the Shillien Templar.
  2. Do the first quests in the starting area — they teach the basics and give you your first weapons, armor and healing items for free.
  3. Turn on auto-hunt — this mode makes your character farm (hunt monsters) on its own in zones at your level, gaining experience even when your attention is elsewhere.
  4. Follow the professions in order — advance from Starter → 1st (Palus Knight) → 2nd (Shillien Knight) → 3rd (Shillien Templar). With each change you gain more health, defense and new tank abilities.
  5. Prioritize the right skills — focus early on Shield Mastery, Majesty and Vengeance to hold enemies, and keep Recover HP and Recover MP active in fights.
  6. Gather Adena and L-Coin — auto-hunt and missions generate these currencies, which you use to buy better gear and support items.
  7. Keep your weapon and armor updated — whenever you can, swap to a stronger armor and shield for your level; a poorly geared tank dies fast.
  8. Join groups — as a tank, you're welcome in any party; playing with others speeds up your progress a lot.

Where to farm

  • Auto-hunt on monsters at your level — let your character hunt on its own in areas suited to your level to level up steadily.
  • Move to harder zones as you grow — as you gain health and defense, switch to more dangerous regions, which give more experience and rewards.
  • Form a party for raids and bosses — your job is to hold the boss while the attackers deal damage; this is where the tank shines most.
  • Use the Season Pass and daily missions — they give extra rewards every day and speed up your progression considerably.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Playing without a shield — without it you lose most of your defense and stop being a real tank.
  • Trying to be the biggest damage on screen — the Shillien Templar protects, it doesn't destroy; insisting on damage only gets you killed and hurts the group.
  • Forgetting to hold aggro — if you don't use skills like Vengeance, the monsters go after the fragile allies and the group falls apart.
  • Letting armor fall behind — failing to update your defensive gear makes even a tank drop fast in harder zones.

This class is for you if…

  • You like being the group's wall and protecting others rather than just dealing damage.
  • You enjoy a sturdy playstyle where dying is rare and weathering the pressure is fun.
  • You want to always be welcome in parties, raids and bosses, where a good tank is essential.
