Spellhowler class guide (Dark Elf) — strengths, skills and step by step

The Spellhowler is the Dark Elf mage that trades defense for pure magical power — a fragile but devastating spell tower. See skills, attributes and a beginner step by step.

by admin 7 min read

In short: The Spellhowler is the Dark Elves' ranged magic damage dealer, with the largest mana pool in its line and sky-high magic power. It's for those who want to melt enemies with spells from afar, without worrying about standing on the front line.

Picture an elven shadow conjuring storms of wind and fireballs without ever laying a hand on the enemy. That's the Spellhowler: a pure caster who lives off mana and powerful spells.

Playing a Spellhowler is a dance of aim and patience. You position, cast the right spell and watch the monster evaporate — but if something gets too close, the fragility shows. It's thrilling exactly for that reason: lots of power in a delicate body.

Overview

Profile
Race Dark Elf
Archetype Ranged caster
Playstyle Magic damage
Difficulty Medium
Main weapon Fists/blades (the focus is the spell, not the weapon)
Position in the line 2nd Class

The Spellhowler is the middle stage of the Dark Elf magic line: Dark Mystic (Starter) → Dark Wizard (1st Class) → Spellhowler (2nd Class). Each evolution unlocks stronger spells and opens the path toward your final form later on.

Strengths

  • Huge mana (100% in the line) — With about 1847 MP at level 85, you cast many spells in a row before needing to stop. In practice, that means farming for longer without running "dry".
  • Sky-high magic power (INT 44, top 96%) — Your INT is one of the highest in the game, and INT is the attribute that multiplies magic damage. Every Fireball or Wind Strike hits far harder than that of non-magic classes.
  • Safe ranged damage — You attack from afar, so you can start casting before the monster gets close. This reduces the damage you take and protects your fragile health.
  • Control and debuff kit — Skills that reduce enemy speed and delay their attacks let you "hold" the monster at range while you destroy it with magic.
  • Self cast and speed buffs — You carry buffs that speed up your spells and your movement, which raises your damage per second and helps you reposition when things go wrong.

Weaknesses

  • Low sturdiness (CON 24, only top 7%) — You have little health and die fast if surrounded. Tip: keep your distance and use your self heal before your health gets critical, not after.
  • Low speed (top 24%) — You run slowly, so fleeing a faster monster is hard. Tip: always turn on your movement speed buff and avoid pulling large groups of enemies.
  • Low dexterity (DEX 23) — DEX affects accuracy and crit; with it low, some spells may miss more often. Tip: target monsters of your level, where your hit chance is comfortable.
  • Mana and cast dependent — If you run out of MP or get interrupted mid-spell, your damage collapses. Tip: carry mana potions/items and use auto-supply so you never hit zero.

Class-defining skills

  • Fireball — A fireball that deals direct magic damage. Your bread-and-butter spell to open a fight on single targets.
  • Wind Strike — A wind hit of magic damage, fast and cheap. Great for chaining with other spells in sequence.
  • Ice Bolt — An ice dart that deals magic damage and also slows the target. Use it to keep the monster from reaching you.
  • Twister — A stronger wind spell, unlocked later. It becomes your main damage as you level up.
  • Self Heal / Battle Heal — Self heals that restore your health. Essential for a fragile mage: use them every time you take a nasty hit.
  • Wind Shackle — A debuff that delays the enemy's attacks (makes it attack more slowly). Great against dangerous melee monsters.
  • Acumen — A buff that speeds up your spell casting time. Keep it always on: more cast = more damage.
  • Wind Walk — A buff that increases your movement speed. It offsets the class's natural slowness and helps you flee.
  • Concentration — A buff that reduces the chance of your spells being canceled when you take damage. It helps you finish the cast even under pressure.

Attributes: what to prioritize

The Spellhowler is a pure mage, so everything revolves around INT and your mana. You want to maximize magic damage and the ability to cast for a long time, leaving defense in the background.

  • INT (magic damage) — The number one priority. It's what makes your spells hit hard.
  • MEN (mana) — Sustains your MP pool so you don't stop casting in the middle of farming.
  • WIT (cast speed) — More spells per second, meaning more damage in less time.
  • CON (health) — Not the focus, but a minimum helps you not die to a single blow.

Since the focus is the spell and not the physical attack, your real "weapon" is whatever raises magic power — prioritize gear with magic bonuses. The ideal armor is the robe, which gives more magic bonus and mana regeneration, in exchange for less physical defense.

Early on, upgrade the magic weapon first (it multiplies your damage) and then the robe. Elemental attributes and jewels that grant MP/magic power are the next steps once you have spare Adena.

Beginner step by step

  1. Create the character — Choose Dark Elf and the starting magic class (Dark Mystic). You're born a caster from level 1.
  2. Do the first quests in the starting area — They give XP, Adena and free basic gear. It's the fastest way out of the low levels.
  3. Turn on auto-hunt — This feature makes your character farm on its own, attacking monsters of your level. Set it to use your damage spells and your potions automatically.
  4. Follow the profession line — Advance Dark Mystic → Dark Wizard (1st) → Spellhowler (2nd) → final form. Each jump grants stronger spells; make the change as soon as you hit the level.
  5. Prioritize the right skills — Always keep the buffs Acumen (cast) and Wind Walk (speed) on, and focus your points on damage spells like Fireball, Wind Strike and Twister.
  6. Gather Adena and L-Coin — Adena comes from farming; L-Coin comes from missions and the Season Pass. Use both to buy mana potions and improve gear.
  7. Keep weapon and armor updated — A mage behind on gear hits weak. Whenever you can, switch to the robe and magic weapon of your level.
  8. Set up HP/MP auto-supply — Put potions in the automatic slots so you never run out of mana or die during auto-hunt.

Where to farm

  • Auto-hunt on monsters of your level — The safest, steadiest way to earn XP and Adena while the character plays on its own.
  • Move to harder zones as you evolve — When farming gets too easy, switch to a stronger region to speed up your leveling.
  • Form a party for raids and bosses — In a group you can take on enemies that give far more reward than you'd get alone.
  • Use the Season Pass and daily missions — Guaranteed sources of Adena, L-Coin and items, without relying only on monster farming.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Letting mana hit zero — Without MP you become a defenseless target. Always carry mana potions and enable auto-supply.
  • Fighting in melee — The Spellhowler isn't built to trade blows; keep your distance and let the spells do the work.
  • Ignoring your self heal — Many newcomers forget Self Heal and die with health "to spare". Heal early, not at the last second.
  • Delaying magic gear — Investing in health instead of magic power wastes what makes the class strong. Upgrade the magic weapon first.

It's for you if…

  • You like attacking from afar and watching the damage numbers explode on screen.
  • You enjoy managing mana and picking the right spell for each situation.
  • You accept being fragile in exchange for one of the highest magic powers in the game.
